Antelmo di Chignin, santo, /1105-1178). Nobile savoiardo, ordinato sacerdote da giovane, visitò per caso la certosa di Portes e vi rimase come monaco. Nel 1109 fu priore della Gran Certosa, ed è grazie ai suoi sforzi che i certosini, che allora erano più o meno un ramo del monachesimo benedettino si trasformarono definitivamente in un nuovo ordine. Per obbedire al Santo Padre nel 1163 accettò il vescovato di Belley. Si guadagnò tanto l'affetto del popolo che la città dopo la sua morte fu chiamata per un certo tempo Antelmopoli. L'artista perciò lo ha effigiato nell'atto di accogliere gente di ogni età, aiutandola moralmente e materialmente nei suoi bisogni; sullo sfondo la sua certosa, di cui ebbe sempre nostalgia e che andava spesso a visitare. Si ricorda il 26 giugno.

Antelmo of Chignin, saint, (1105 – 1178). Noble of Savoy, ordained priest from youth, he visited by chance the Charterhouse of Portes and remained there as a monk. In 1109 he was prior of the Great Charterhouse, and it is thanks to his efforts that the Carthusians, who then were more or less a branch of the Benedictine monasticism definitely became a new order. To obey the Pope in 1163 he accepted the episcopate of Belley. He was so loved by the people that after his death the city was called Antelmopoli for a certain period of time. The artist therefore portrayed him in the act of welcoming people of every age, helping them morally and materially in their needs; in the background his Charterhouse, for which he always felt nostalgic and which he often went to visit. He is remembered on June 26.
Antelmo von Chignin, Heiliger, (1105-1178). Adeliger Savoyarde, jung bestellter Priester, besuchte zufällig die Kartause von Portes und dort blieb wie Mönch. Er war Prior der Großen Kartause 1109 und es ist dank seiner Mühen, dass die Kartäusermönche, die mehr oder weniger ein Zweig der Benediktiner Mönchstums waren, sie sich in einen neuen endgültigen Orden verwandelten. Er nahm den Bischofsamt von Belley im Jahr 1163 an, um dem Heiligen Vater zu gehorchen. Er verdiente sich eine derartige Zuneigung des Volkes, dass die Stadt nach seinem Tod für eine gewisse Zeit Antelmopoli hieß. Der Künstler hat ihn deshalb im Akt in dem er Leute von jedem Alter empfang und moralisch und materiell in ihren Bedürfnissen half dargestellt; auf dem Hintergrund seine Kartause, von der er immer Sehnsucht hatte, und die er oft besuchen ging. Er wird am 26. Juni erinnert.
